The ninth edition of the “Silver Sirotti” Memorial”—the event dedicated to the heroic conductor of the Italicus train, 52 years after his tragic death—ends in a 0-0 draw.
At the “Tullo Morgagni” Stadium in Forlì, the final preseason friendly against the Biancorossi was evenly matched, and there were no notable scoring chances early in the match, except for two shots from the edge of the box by Olivieri and Pagano.
After a couple of saves by Fontana to clear up dangerous scrambles in the Cavalluccio penalty area, midway through the first half it was Frabotta who came close to opening the scoring with a free kick from the right flank.
In the second half, the Bianconeri maintained control of the game but were unable to find the goal that would break the deadlock. Cavalluccio threatened with two runs by Druiventak down the right flank and a fine run through the middle by Schirone.
At the end of the match, Coach Alessandro Diamanti said: “We came here to Forlì tonight for an important cause, and we were honored to do so. It’s been a regular event for many years now, with deep significance behind it. My plan for today’s game was to give playing time to all the guys, especially those who played less on Wednesday, to ensure everyone is on the same level heading into next week, when our true official season opener awaits us. It’s important for everyone to be at their best, also in terms of the lineup decisions I’ll make, and that was the main idea.”
“What did I like about this preseason? As I’ve already said, these guys are giving it their all. It’s clear—added the Cavalluccio coach—that there’s still a lot of work to be done, and I say this regardless of the result of any single friendly match. We need to put in a lot of work, and tonight’s game gives me and the entire staff a lot more to look at and many details we’ll be working on.”
Cesena FC will resume training on Monday, August 10, at 5:00 p.m. at the “Alberto Rognoni” Sports Center, kicking off the week leading up to the Bianconeri’s debut in the Coppa Italia Frecciarossa on the road against Sassuolo Calcio, scheduled for Monday, August 17, at 6:30 p.m.
